THE WUDOS BAND

Je dois avouer que je viens de découvrir ce dont je vais vous parler, que je n'ai pas encore vraiment eu le temps de l'écouter et que je suis rarement emballé par les mash-ups...Mais mixer le flow du Wu Tang avec les beats funky et sauvages du Budos Band, ça a quand même de la gueule sur le papier. I must confess that I've just discovered the music I'm going to talk about, that I didn't have time yet to listen to it carefully and that generally speaking I don't have a passion for mash-ups...But to make a mix between the Wu Tang flow and the wild and funky beats of the Budos Band sounds huge. 2010 CHARTS - BLUNDETTO

Comme c'est bientot Noel, Heavenly sweetness fait son calendrier de l'Avent sous forme de charts 2010 par les differents contributeurs du blog et artistes du label.

On commence en fanfare avec BLUNDETTO. Nous sommes tellement content de l'accueillir dans la famille Heavenly Sweetness et on a tellement écouté en boucle son album qu'il pourrait être notre Homme de l'année. Mais bon, ce qui compte c'est la musique et pour lui 2010 c'est ça :

It's time for our advent calendar : 2010 charts by blog contributors and HS label artists. Let's start with this year new comer in the Heavenly Swetness family : BLUNDETTO. He could be elected man of the year by most of us but what we care is music so enjoy his charts!!

THEOPHILUS LONDON

Sa reprise de Calypso Blues trotte actuellement dans toutes les têtes. Mais Theophilus London n'en est pas à son coup d'essai. Depuis environ deux ans, ce MC/dandy de Brooklyn balance sur la toile des titres mutants à la croisée du hip-hop, de la new-wave, de l'électro et de la pop et s'amuse à détourner des tubes d'Amadou & Mariam, Marvin Gaye, Lauryn Hill ou même Whitney Houston. Mais l'esthétique Theophilus dépasse ses chansons. La pochette de sa mixtape la plus fameuse, "This Charming Mixtape", est un double clin d'oeil à Elvis Costello et aux Smiths, ses clips versent régulièrement dans le kitsch des années 80's (vous vous souvenez des clips de TV6 ?) et son look évoque autant les photos old school de Jamel Shabazz que les vendeurs de chez American Apparel. Un tel OVNI méritait bien, non pas une, ni deux, mais trois vidéos, à commencer par le froid et sensuel "Cold Pillow" :

His Calypso Blues cover is at the present time in every heads. But Theophilus London is not a musical beginner. Since around two years, this MC/dandy from Brooklyn broadcasts on the web mutants songs at the crossroads of hip-hop, new-wave, electro and pop and he plays to hijack hits from Amadou & Mariam, Marvin Gaye, Lauryn Hill or even Whitney Houston. But Theophilus aesthetic goes beyond his songs. The cover of his most famous mixtape, "This Charming Mixtape" is a double tribute to Elvis Costello and the Smiths, his videos take us back to the 80's and his style makes me think about a mix between the old-school pictures of Jamel Shabazz and American Apparel salesmen. Such a musical UFO had to be mentioned in our blog.

ARCHIE WHITEWATER - CROSS COUNTRY

Rien à dire de particulier sur ce titre enregistré il y a 40 ans pour Cadet, sous-division jazz du mythique label Chess. Une perle qui tombe quelque part entre la soul, le jazz et la musique folk. Et qui, en ces temps frileux, me fait regretter de ne pas avoir de cheminée.



Nothing particular to say about that gem. Just a perfect one, recorded 40 years ago for Cadet Records, jazz subsidiary of Chess Records. Very recommanded for chillin’ at warm home when it’s getting cold outside.
