Soul Jazz Records frappe encore très fort ! Le label londonien s'apprête à rééditer trois joyaux rares de la scène deep jazz de la grande époque : "House of Spirit : Mirth" du batteur Pheeroan Ak Laff, "Triumph!" du pianiste et membre de l'AACM Steve Colson et "Washington Suite" du flûtiste Lloyd McNeill, certainement le plus incontournable de la série.

Soul Jazz Records strikes again ! The londonian label is just going to reissue three rare jewels of the deep jazz golden age : "House of Spirit : Mirth" by the drummer Pheeroan Ak Laff, "Triumph!" by pianist and AACM member Steve Colson and "Washington Suite" by DC flutist Lloyd McNeill which is according to me the most incredible of this series.

At last I dig a copy of this classic, I only knew by name. A very good surprise, the full album sounds great. One of my favorite european jazz album from now on!

l'album de l'été pour certains, l'album de la rentrée pour moi. Le disque ne sort pas de la platine. Un vrai disque anglais, sombre, pop et avec beaucoup de basse.
My "back to school" album, repeat mode on my desk. A real english album, dark, pop and full of bass

Mike Westbrook “Celebration” (deram)
j'avais découvert cet artiste avec les compils "impressed" de Gilles Peterson. Un bel album de british jazz qui n'a pas pris une ride.
Discovered through the Impressed compilation by Gilles Peterson, British jazz at his best.

Rapture “How deep is your love” (DFA)
Mon tube de la rentrée, un morceau qui rend heureux et donne envie de danser en chantant à tue tête "combien profond est ton amour". Produit par Zdar et quelque part ça me fait penser à "Sound of violence" de Cassius. remember.
My hit since mid august, a track which make me feel happy and make me dance singing "how deep is your love". Produced by Zdar in a way which make me think to "Sound of violence" by cassius.

JONI HAASTRUP - GREETINGS

"Greetings" est l'un des morceaux d'afro-funk les plus puissants enregistrés à Lagos à la fin des années 70. C'est aussi l'une des six bombes qui composent l'album "Wake Up Your Mind" de Joni Haastrup, conjointement réédité par Hot Casa Records (pour la version vinyle) et Soundway (pour le reste).

"Greetings" is one of the most powerful afro-funk tracks recorded in Lagos at the end of the 70's. It's also one of the six bombs of "Wake Up Your Mind", an album from Joni Haastrup conjointly reissued by Hot Casa Records (for the vinyl) and Soundway (for CD and digital versions).

CECIL MCBEE

Que ce soit sous son nom ou aux côtés de Pharoah Sanders, Chico Freeman ou Sam Rivers, le contrebassiste Cecil McBee est un acteur important de la scène jazz indépendante et d'avant-garde des années 70. Le voici d'abord avec "Tulsa Black" extrait de son premier album, "Mutima", sorti en 74 chez Strata-East, suivi de "Come Sunrise", issu de l'album suivant "Alternate Spaces" paru trois ans plus tard chez India Navigation.

Cecil McBee has been an important player of the 70's avant-garde and independant jazz scence, be it under his own name or beside Pharoah Sanders, Chico Freeman or Sam Rivers. Here he is, first with "Tulsa Black", from his 1st album, "Mutima", a 74 Strata-East output, and then with "Come Sunrise", from the following one, "Alternate Spaces" released three years after on India Navigation.
